Book review on : 'Deutsche Keramik und Porzellan der 60'er und 70'er Jahre' by M.P. Thomas (German Sixties and Seventies Ceramics and Porcelain)

A brand new book (published April 2006) about the main scope of outernational, featuring this wonderful sixties and seventies ceramics.
First thing to know is, that the book is written by a well-known and enthusiastic collector of West-German ceramics and porcelain which gives it an honest scent and makes it clear that this is a piece of thorough research.

This book is the very brave first attempt to categorize the vast amount of an (almost) forgotten mass production era.
Part one of the book gives a general impression of the context, concerning society, general design- and technical developments.

Part two, the catalogue, gives a selective overview of the production of the more important companies like Scheurich, Ceramano and Jasba.
Here the author's personal taste comes strongly into focus, giving 25 pages to the work of the, internationally known, sculptor Schäffenacker, but resulting in a somewhat narrow choice of industrially produced pieces.
Nonetheless, the catalogue offers the starting and the advanced collector an useful overview and some fine detailed information.
All in all a must and a very welcome 'starter kit' for (aspirant-)collectors in this, rapidly growing, collector's area.

155 pages, 560 colour pictures, German language, ISBN 3-00-017329-3. Price in Euro 19,90 excluding shipping.
